The HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 monochrome printer has an OEM-rated print speed of 45 pages per minute (ppm) and a monthly duty cycle rating of 150,000 pages. The multifunction (MFP) version, the Enterprise MFP M527, has the same print specifications, with copy, scan and fax functions added (fax is optional on the M527 base model). Canon also offers models based on the same print engine, with comparable print specifications.

The only supplies item is an all-in-one JetIntelligence® toner cartridge (maintenance kits must be replaced by a service technician). Replacement cartridges have OEM-stated page yields of 9,000 pages (standard yield) and 18.000 pages (high yield). The M506 printers ship with a pre-installed introductory cartridge yielding 6,000 pages. The MFP M527 models ship with the 9,000 page standard yield cartridge pre-installed.

Cartridges require a chip for correct printer operation.
